  3. YOUR MODEM HAS THE ABILITY TO ADJUST ITS IMPEDANCE TO MATCH  YOUR
  4. LOCAL PHONE LINE.

  6.      From  terminal  mode. Type AT\E1 and press the [enter]  key.
  7. This tells your modem to adjust to your phone line when you  make
  8. your next V.32bis call. Make the V.32bis call immediately   after
  9. entering  AT\E1.  You may not connect on the first  try,  as  the
  10. modem will be making this adjustment. However your modem will now
  11. be adjusted to the phone line, and this step will not have to  be
  12. repeated unless you change phone lines.

  15. USING PREFIXES TO FORCE 2400 OR 9600 CONNECTIONS.
  16.  
  17.      Some newer software like Qmodem and Pcplus have a screen  in
  18. the  dialing directory where you can enter dialing  prefixes.  In
  19. Qmodem press E and in Pcplus press P to get that screen. Then  to
  20. use  those prefixes you just put the letter of the prefix  before
  21. the telephone number in the directory. (You may have to go to the
  22. Setup and erase the original ATDT).

  24.                  V.32 / V.42bis Dialing Prefixes
  25.  
  26.      The  normal dial Prefix is ATDT. If the number  is  423-1563
  27. then  it sends ATDT4231563 to the modem, which then  dials,   and
  28. connects. This is using auto-speed (baud) negotiation as well  as
  29. negotiating   Protocol (V.42bis, MNP etc.). Some  modems/software
  30. you   will  call  do NOT like this.  Listed  are  alternate  dial
  31. Prefixes you may use.

  33. AT&Q5N1DT           :negotiates SPEED and Protocol (default) 1
  34. AT&Q6N1DT           :negotiates SPEED only 1
  35. AT&Q5S37=11N0DT     :*Connect 14400, negotiate Protocol 1 2
  36. AT&Q6S37=11N0DT     :*Connect 14400 only 2
  37. AT&Q5S37=9N0DT      :*Connect 9600, negotiate Protocol 1
  38. AT&Q6S37=9N0DT      :*Connect 9600 only 1
  39. AT&Q5S37=6N0DT      :Connect 2400, negotiate Protocol 1
  40. AT&Q6S37=6N0DT      :Connect 2400 only 1
  41. AT&Q6S37=5N0DT      :Connect 1200 only 1
  42. AT&Q6S37=1N0DT      :Connect 300 only 1
